'As long as the Server is Runs' Is a multimedia installation exploring the world of site responsive work. As an extension based off a project that explored earlier in the Spring 2023 semester. I sent out a variety of qr codes to my friends all around the school, city and country. Each card had a prompt asking them to leave the sticker somewhere that may need a voice to speak. I asked for the sticker to be placed primarily outside of MCAD. I wanted people to explore the city, I also wanted to hear different voices. I asked everyone to share their photos with me through #asLongasTheServerRuns.

This piece also received the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Senior Web and Multimedia scholarship and recognition.

I printed out over one hundred of these cards and sent them to my friends who live all around the country. The card has instructions telling them what to do with the sticker. I also sent each of them an individual message describing the goal of the project.

Below are some pictures of the locations in which the stickers reside. Including, Minneapolis, New York City, Boston, Newark, Orlando, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more. These cities are constantly being added to as this in an ongoing project.

Below are some photos of the locations of the stickers.

When the QR code is scanned, a screen brings up a form which is based in the ‘techy’ aesthetic. There is a statement saying “tap the screen” when the screen is tapped, there are a series of personal questions that ask the user about their feelings.

The basis behind the questions came about when thinking how much we are willing to share in the tech environment without knowing where the information is going.

When the user submits their response. They are only given the feedback that the response has been sent somewhere. But they do not know where and they do not know to whom.

In the installation, there is immediate feedback, projecting this screen on the wall. But after was taken down from MCAD in March 2023, the information is not immediately given to any particular user.

Here is a link to the page of the responses.

Adjacent to the responses in the installation. There is a little television with a motion tracking script using PoseNet here a web cam is hooked up. The words ‘don’t leave me’ follow each installation visitor throughout the experience. Click on the picture to visit this script.

On the other corner of the installation, sits a television against a wall. Where the words “As long as the Server Runs” is duplicated filling up the entire screen with the phrase until it is no longer legible. Click the photo to visit the script.
